Preventing Backsliding as a Means of Progress
The phrase ‘one step forward, two steps back’ is a phrase that many people are familiar with – one that can be used in a wide variety of contexts. However, in business, you don’t want that kind of mentality to become one that pervades everything that you do. Progress by any means might not be progress, after all. In fact, if you focus the majority of your attention on avoiding taking those ‘two steps back’ at all, you might have ultimately done more for your business than if you’d ever taken that costly step forward to begin with.
Goals and Objectives That Stick
It’s easy to see business goals as something that’s just a part of the process. If you have these kinds of targets to meet then it provides your work with some kind of structure and it gives your employees something to work towards – with larger goals able to be broken down into smaller goals. There’s a lot of guidance online about the right way to develop goals like these, but what’s important for you to understand about your business in particular is that these goals need to make a difference.
Once your team meets a goal or completes an objective, you want the results to last longer than the temporary elation and celebration this brings. If your business has improved, or found its footing somewhere as a result of this goal being met, being aware of that can help you to build on top of it rather than just adjacent to it.
Business Security
One of the biggest areas where losing what you’ve worked for can impact you is when it comes to some sort of large-scale security issue. On some level, due to the sheer number of cyber threats that target businesses, you’re at the mercy of luck and chaos – but that doesn’t mean that you can’t increase your protection with the right approach.
That right approach comes down to both education and information about what your staff can do to avoid falling prey to scams, but it’s also about developing a robust defense in and of itself. An MDR approach can be effective here due to the fact that it frequently probes and monitors your own security for weaknesses, enabling you to make the necessary improvements before issues arise.
Employee Conditions
When it comes to building upon what you’ve already established, the working conditions of your staff are a prime area. While the experience of any one employee who enters your business and (hopefully) learns to enjoy their work and thrive in their environment is unique to them, the space you cultivated which enabled that to happen will remain. In order to get to that point in the first place, however, you need to work with your staff. This is not only so that you understand what they want in the first place, but also so that you can develop a trusting relationship with them which is built off of honesty and communication.
